INFRASTRUCTURE AND OTHER FACILITIES

Sophia College Hostel has the following facilities:

  • Provision of recreation room with television and indoor games.
  • Rooms are spacious and well ventilated.
  • Study room in each block with study tables and chairs.
  • Mosquito nets on all windows and doors.
  • Laundry facilities at reasonable and affordable prices, by private venture
  • A fully stocked Infirmary with a wheelchair, blood pressure monitor and basic medicines, along with a full time resident nurse.
  • Tie-up with St. Francis Hospital, Ajmer a Sister Concern for On Call Ambulance Facility.
  • 24×7 security with guards at the main door at all times and CCTVs installed at various places to monitor entry and exit from the hostel, while maintaining the privacy of the residents.
  • Public address system and CCTV facility for enhanced safety of the hostel inmates.
  • 24×7 solar water heaters with storage facility, ensuring hot water supply at all times.
  • 24×7 electricity, from solar panels with battery back up hence no power cuts.
  • Water coolers with purifiers in mess and alternate floors.
  • Facility of daily local and national newspapers.
  • Photocopy and printing facilities available on the campus.
  • Basic Stationary facility within campus.
  • Properly maintained personal records, as well as, outing records of the hostelers.
  • Different menu on each day of the week, with special meals on Sunday are planned and provided
  • Purchase of best quality perishable and non-perishable food products is made.
  • Strict hostel rules are expected to be followed by each and every hosteler.

Warden’s Message

Dear Aspiring Students and Parents,

It has been aptly said, “Where we love is home—home that our feet may leave but not our hearts”. Hostel life at Sophia is exactly like this. From being young, home sick children in July in their first year to reluctant and teary eyed graduates who don’t want to go back home is a norm of hostel life here. Sophia hostel is more than a home away from home. It is a cradle of learning togetherness, loving and appreciating people from all across the country; quarreling and making up; eating and playing; helping and growing. The hostel of Sophia is a securely cocooned place of love and care where every little need is seen to personally and attended to. The homely environment, the security, mixed with the vision to chisel and transform makes the hostel a place where learning continues even after college is over. Hostelites have more time to play and a better time to learn. They are the ones who in fact avail the best opportunities at Sophia simply because they stay within the safe premises of the college. Parents have often complimented the management on seeing the positive change in their wards within a short span of six months after their stay in the hostel. Young minds learn discipline, time management, punctuality, service and team work while staying 24×7 on the campus. It is the hostelites who spread their wings most and create the best memories within and outside class for they lend life to the campus of the college. The Hostel Warden

Hostel Rules and Regulations

Sophia College Hostel is run on the human values of love, discipline, honour and service. The rules and regulations are planned to help young women to become mature and responsible citizens, able to use freedom wisely and at the same time practise self- discipline. The Hostel functions in collaboration with the Principal of the College and Warden of the Hostel. The Rules and regulations of the hostel are given below.

  1. Only those students who are admitted to the College will be eligible for admission to the hostel.
  2. Ragging in the hostel premises is prohibited. Any inmate involved in ragging is liable to be expelled from the hostel/College.
  3. Admission of a student to the hostel may be cancelled if she is found to be suffering from any physical/mental ailments which could cause infection/disturbance to other inmates.
  4. The admission of a student to the hostel can be cancelled if she is guilty of:
    • Suppression or misrepresentation of any fact about herself.
    • An act of indiscipline in or outside the hostel.
    • Violation of any of the hostel rules, including non-payment of dues.
    • Not putting in required percentage of attendance in class or not showing good performance.
    • Misbehaviour, using abusive language, manhandling of hostel employees/inmates.
    • Sharing a room with others or entering in other rooms without the permission of the Warden.
    • Possessing/taking drugs, liquor and other intoxicants.
  5. Rooms will be shared by 4 Students hence friendly and cordial behaviour is expected of all students.
  6. No personal electrical gadget like heater, iron, etc can be used in the hostel rooms.
  7. It is compulsory for all the students to have a smart mobile phone with WhatsApp since some important information will be conveyed to the students regularly by the Warden through Whats App. However, the mobile phone is allowed only from 7 am to 10.20 pm. After 9 pm , the students will not be allowed to talk over the phone . It should be used only for study purpose. At 10.20 pm the phone should be switched off and submitted to the warden.
  8. Laptop/ i pad is allowed but will be charged Rs. 2000/- for the whole year.
  9. Hostellers should be modestly & neatly dressed.
  10. Hostellers will be responsible for the safety of their personal belongings as well as the safety of articles issued to them. They are advised not to keep any precious articles/cash in their rooms.
  11. Hostellers are advised not to lend or borrow money, jewellery, etc. The College will not be responsible for any loss or damage.
  12. Hostel employees are not permitted to do personal work of the inmates.
  13. Students will be given permission for outing on every Sundays from 1pm to 5 pm only
  14. No student will go outside the campus without the permission of the warden.
  15. No student will be allowed to go/ to stay at their Local Guardian’s house. In case any student needs to go home or outstation, she should get a written permission from the parents and the parents will be informed the date and time of her departure.
  1. No visitors are allowed during the week days specially during College hours. In case of emergency, special permission should be taken from the warden.
  2. The visitors are allowed on Sundays between 9 am to 6pm. However, all the details of the visitors should be entered in the visitor’s book which is kept with the security.
  3. No student will be allowed to go out to take private tuitions.
  4. Entry of males, friends and day scholars in the Hostel is strictly prohibited.
  5. Cooking food in the rooms is not allowed.
  6. Meals will be served in the Dining Hall during the stipulated timings only. Students are not allowed to carry food or any article from the dining room to the room or outside without the permission of the in charge of the Mess.
  7. Cooked food brought from outside the hostel is not permitted in the premises. However, on Sundays and Thursdays, it is allowed between 1pm and 6 pm for those who wish to order the food with the prior permission of the warden, after making entries in the food ordering book which is kept with the security. After 6 pm the students will not be allowed to take the food from outside.
  8. It is mandatory for every hosteller to be present for the roll call made every day by the warden at 9 p.m.
  9. Perfect silence to be observed from 9:00 p.m. to 7 am and from 1 pm to 4 pm. Lights should be switched off at 11.30 pm.
  10. The warden and other authorities have the discretion to inspect any room, at any time.
  11. A case of illness must be immediately reported to the warden
  12. No vehicle of any type is allowed to be kept by the inmates.
  13. Students must obtain a “No Dues Certificate” before vacating the hostel at the end of the session. They will have to vacate their rooms within 48 hours of the examinations.
  14. Any extension in leave should be informed, before the completion of the granted leave by parents to the warden through email.
  15. The institution does not encourage extended leaves, which affect the academic performance of the student. Care must be taken by the parents of the wards for the same.
  16. Home Leave will be given only after getting a written application and gate pass signed by the Warden. The parents will be informed before the students leave the hostel and the parents are expected to inform the warden when the students come back to the hostel.
  17. If the student wants to take leave from the hostel for more than 5 days, she should obtain a written permission from the Principal and then should get the gate pass signed by the Warden before leaving the hostel
  18. All hostellers will have to be an NSS volunteer & join at least one game during her stay in the hostel.
  19. Any subsequent change in the particulars given by the candidate in the hostel application form should be immediately reported to the office.
  20. Admission to the Hostel for each session will depend on the student’s performance during the year and based on decision of the management

Note:

All hostellers will be subject to the Rules and Regulations of the Hostel. The College authorities reserve to themselves the right of dismissing at any time, a hosteller who misbehaves and who, in their opinion, is not amenable to correction

Admission Procedure for Hostel
  • Admission to the College hostel is provided only to Under Graduate Students.
  • Admission to the College hostel is subject to the applicant’s position in the merit list and availability of seats in the hostel.
  • Students seeking admission in the hostel are required to fill up the Hostel Admission Form by applying through the Online Link–with the College Admission Form and paying the Hostel Form fee of Rs. 500/- online along with the Admission Form Fee.
  • Hard Copy of the filled Hostel Form should be submitted in the College Office along with the College Admission Form.
  • Confirmation of the applicant’s admission in the college is essential for grant of admission in the hostel.
  • Once the admission in the hostel is confirmed, the applicant is required to deposit the hostel fee online through the college website.
  • Hostel Admission Fee once deposited shall not be refunded in any case.
  • Four passport size recent colour photographs to be deposited along with the Hostel Admission Form.
