We believe that we can lead young women to experience the Supreme Being by exposing them to eternal values through the quest of truth and self knowledge.
We are convinced that there is a Supreme Power, the source of wisdom and discernment. As stewards of the Almighty we are responsible to build up a world based on integrity, equity and inclusivity in spite of the diversity and panoptic spectrum of the universe.
We believe that in our pilgrimage towards excellence we are accountable to our stake holders and hence transparency in all departments is of paramount importance.
College through it’s curricular, extra-curricular and outreach activities aims to nourish individuals who are creative, innovative and research oriented. Such individuals will contribute to building a more sustainable and equitable world.
Sophia Girls’ College, Ajmer functions under the management of the Mission Sisters of Ajmer, a Sisterhood of Indian women, whose dedication to God enables them to impart a liberal and enlightened education in the upliftment of humanity. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Fortunatus Caumont, First Bishop of Ajmer, (1871- 1930) the Founder of the Mission Sisters of Ajmer and his sister Rev. Mother Matilda (1880-1950) are the Founders of the Institution.
The Sophian Institution was founded in 1919 as a small Primary School to educate girls of conservative families of the time. It gradually grew from Middle to a High School and in 1942 was raised to the Intermediate level. The Institution acquired the Degree status in 1959 so as to provide Higher Education facilities for women. Today the institution is a full-fledged Autonomous ‘A’ Grade College permanently affiliated to Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer in the faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Management (BBA), Computer Application (BCA), Honours in English , Economics and Commerce, Post Graduation in English, Political Science, Sociology, Geography, History,Chemistry, ABST and Computer Science.
2019- Another year of God’s grace, another milestone in the annals of Sophian history. We are now in the 60th year of our existence. Our institution has grown from a school meant for secluded and silenced women in a patriarchal society into a reputed institute of higher education. This was all because of our visionary and charismatic founder, Rev. Henry Caumont. The Lord has indeed been gracious and merciful in this momentous year by extending our NAAC accreditation till December 2020. We have worked hard and the Almighty has found us worthy of this prodigious blessing. We now have more time to reflect on our vision which centers round academic excellence and the empowerment of women. We have reorganized and restructured our mission in keeping with global standards and have girded ourselves to relearn new pedagogies which are in sync with international standards. We are proud of our past laurels and brand name but are also conscious of the miles we need to walk on the path of perfection. We are confident that with God as our guide and the Spirit of Wisdom to enlighten us, Sophia College will continue her quest of wisdom.
We acknowledge that “The gateways to wisdom and learning are always open and we are more and more choosing to walk through them. Barriers, blocks, obstacles and problems are personal teachers giving us the opportunity to move out of the past into the Totality of Possibilities.” (Louise L. Hay).
May the Lord continue to protect and bless our College.
