History

Sophia Girls’ College, Ajmer functions under the management of the Mission Sisters of Ajmer, a Sisterhood of Indian women, whose dedication to God enables them to impart a liberal and enlightened education in the upliftment of humanity. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Fortunatus Caumont, First Bishop of Ajmer, (1871- 1930) the Founder of the Mission Sisters of Ajmer and his sister Rev. Mother Matilda (1880-1950) are the Founders of the Institution.

It gradually grew from Middle to a High School and in 1942 was raised to the Intermediate level. The Institution acquired the Degree status in 1959 so as to provide Higher Education facilities for women. Today the institution is a full-fledged Autonomous ‘A’ Grade College permanently affiliated to Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer in the faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Management (BBA), Computer Application (BCA), Honours in English and Economics, Post Graduation in English, Political Science, Sociology, Geography, Chemistry, ABST and Computer Science.

Principal’s  Message

Unless the Lord builds the house, those who built it labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain .  It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil for he gives to his beloved sleep. (Psalm 127:1-2)
Faith in the goodness of the Lord is the foundation on which the ideals of Sophia stand. In this world full of strife, violence, prejudice and darkness the college uplifts the torch of wisdom to dispel the darkness around. The motto of our College is Seek ye Wisdom because only wisdom from above is the antidote to the poison of ignorance. Moreover, the girl child is the future creator of the society, the pivot of family and hence the nation. It is very important that we educate and empower our girls so that they can contribute substantially and positively in nation building. Sophia endeavours to equip young girls with the right skill and confidence to face the future with courage. Good infrastructure supported by dedicated and experienced teachers helps the students to realise their dreams by focusing on their goals and motivating them to take on life as it comes. A blend of serious academics with a variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities helps in their holistic development by chiselling their talents. The conducive environment provided in the college helps to nurture creativity, resilience and leadership qualities among our students that are vital for the development of a versatile personality. At Sophia we don’t simply believe in imparting knowledge but we strive towards kindling a lifelong zeal and thirst for knowledge, love for what is right and a passion for wisdom and perfection in the hearts of our students that will continue to burn and carry them forward into their lives. Besides knowledge from the books we aim at instilling higher values of kindness, charity, agape love, tolerance, faith, honesty and fortitude in our students so that we can create a better world. Their thirst for the higher ideals of life will help the world community at large. To achieve this we believe in a long term collaboration with teachers, parents, students and the community. Come join hands with us in creating a better world and a brighter future for our children.
Be a Sophian—pass on the fire that we kindle, make a difference!
